In Loving Memory of Sally Meservy

When I first moved into the neighborhood, my earliest memories of Sally were; running back and forth to DeAnn's to borrow things, or packing a baby over there in a blanket, and you would often see Sally and DeAnn visiting out in the street.

When Sally was ward Young Women President, the girls and leaders just loved her.  One day she was at my house and I asked her how she was able to serve for such a long time.  She said the service to others helped to keep her mind off her own problems.

One quality I really admired about Sally is that she seemed to keep everyone happy and content.  In all her years as Young Women President, I never heard of anyone that was discontent with what she did or what she said.

Sally developed herself into being a masterful teacher.  She was the ward Teacher Development instructor.  One night I was there and she was talking about plants and how they relate to our lives, according to the love and care you give them.  It was so well done that I was literally stunned in amazement of her skill and the spirit in which she taught the lesson.

Sally always carried the spirit of the Lord with her in her countenance.  She was never to busy to say, Hi, and give you that beautiful smile.

I always admired the quality in Sally that she had a naturally soft voice.  She kept herself in shape physically.  I would often see her turn the corner and set off for a fast walk.  She looked so good, no one could ever believe she had carried six children.

Though she had trials of her own, she had the ability to ignore them and take care of her family and the needed church work at hand.  Of great importance in her life was her family.  She adored her little granddaughter.  She could paint up, fix up or mend up a wall.  She decorated her home beautifully for her family.

She always carried a day-timer that seemed to be chuck full of activities.  She would go down the list each day with what seemed the greatest of ease.

Many have said, and I agree, if we could think of someone who was ready to meet the Savior, it would have been Sally.  Her testimony was bright, her actions were in accordance with God's will.  There was one problem, we were not ready to say good-bye to one so noble and great.  One so Christ-like, our precious friend, Sally.

This Primary song reminded me of Sally:

I'm Trying to be Like Jesus

I'm trying to be like Jesus; I'm following in his ways.
I'm trying to love as He did, in all that I do and say.
I'm trying to love my neighbor, I'm learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness, when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught.
The Holy Spirit enters into my thought, saying;
Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought.
For these are the things Jesus taught.

Good-bye Sally in the flesh, but I know your spirit will be here among your family and friends, doing what you do best; lifting, helping, encouraging, and walking beside your husband and children as they journey along this path of earth life.  May we all live our lives as well as you did, that we may be with the Savior again some day.
