Written for his 15th birthday while he was staying with Eric in Fallon

Did you ever wonder who you are?
Well, in my opinion...

Your big brown eyes, your toothless smile
And your very unique, almost constant giggle
Have brought sunshine to your home
Ever since you were a baby.

You’re the world’s biggest tease and practical joker...
Just ask any of your sisters!
And you’ve always had a kind of charm
That makes everyone smile and want to know you better.

You tell some of the corniest jokes
But they become hilariously funny
Just by the way you tell them.

From letters, to homemade birthday presents
To bringing back something for everyone from a trip,
Your thoughtfulness always shows through.

Once you said you wanted to be an only child
If you had been, YOU might have been better off
But your brothers and sisters sure would have missed out on a lot.

I always thought you’d end up as a chef
And make a million on your famous pizza crackers
And other exotic dishes
But you insisted it was a dentist you’d someday be.

You have a knack for being creative.
Don’t ever stifle it.
Remember... the man who follows the crowd
Will usually get no further than the crowd.

David, don’t ever lose your creativity,
Your thoughtfulness or your charm
And your toothless smile is gone
But don’t ever stop smiling.

Don’t ever stop being a tease
You just wouldn’t be yourself.
And don’t let your hair grow so long it covers your big brown eyes.
We couldn’t recognize you anymore.

And whether you decide to be a chef, a dentist, or maybe a car salesman
Just don’t forget who you really are.
Be what no one else but you can be.
